PATENTED SHORTSPANÔ DRYWALL GRID SYSTEM FROM
AMRSTRONG ELIMINATES SCREWS IN MOST APPLICATIONS
New self-locking system simplifies installation of drywall framing
over short spans by also eliminating cross tees and hanger wires
ShortSpan Drywall Grid System, a new, patented self-locking system from Armstrong Ceilings, simplifies the installation of
drywall framing over short spans by eliminating screws, cross tees and hanger wires in most applications.
The key to the system is a new angle molding containing pre-engineered locking tabs that eliminate the need for the screws,
pop rivets or crimpers usually required to attach tees to the molding.
The locking tabs prevent both lateral and upward movement of the tees and are spaced 8" on center, eliminating the need to
measure 16" or 24" on center. In addition, crimp marks located at the tabs facilitate fast, easy alignment.
ShortSpan System Ideal for Hallways
The ShortSpan Drywall Grid System is ideal for hallways, bathrooms and similar short-span spaces in buildings such as hotels,
motels, condominiums, apartment houses and dormitories. It allows the installation of 5/8" drywall to span up to 6 feet with
no vertical support; and 1/2" drywall up to 7 feet with no vertical support.
The tees used in the ShortSpan system are offered in standard lengths of 8, 10, 12 and 14 feet, and have a 1-1/2" wide face
that exceeds the minimum industry standard. They also feature a deep knurled surface for easy screw insertion, and a ScrewStop™
reverse hem to prevent screw spin off.
Rotary stitching and a double web add strength and stability, while a balanced profile helps ensure the tees stay flat during
installation. There are also no rout holes or end details in the tees.
The system’s new locking angle molding is compatible with both the Armstrong ShortSpan and standard Armstrong Drywall Grid
Systems. A new knurled wall angle is also available when locking tabs are not needed. The knurled angle molding offers the
benefits of a knurled surface, ScrewStop, and pre-punched holes.
