New aluminum systems are both decorative and functional.
Help to visually mask plenum while still allowing access to it.
CHICAGO, June 13, 2005 - New MetalWorks Open Cell Ceilings from Armstrong offer architects and designers a new aesthetic option
for open ceilings.
Compared to a completely open ceiling, MetalWorks Open Cell ceilings are both decorative and functional. Manufactured from
aluminum with a powder-coated, post-coated paint for added durability, they can create an attractive "open" ceiling that is
accessible to lighting and HVAC equipment installed above the ceiling plane, while still helping to visually mask the plenum.
They can also help create a greater sense of volume in the space by creating a "loft" feel, even in spaces with relatively
low ceiling space. Typical applications include retail, hospitality and transportation projects as well as open areas in other
spaces such as offices and call centers.
Two Types of Systems Offered
New MetalWorks Open Cell ceilings are available in two types of systems. The Lay-In System features 2’x 2’ open cell ceiling
panels with a frame around them that are installed quickly and easily in a standard 9/16" exposed tee grid system. All sides
of the panels are painted to provide a consistent visual with the grid so there is no need for grid covers. In addition, the
width of the open cell panel blade matches the width of the grid to help create a seamless visual.
The new Lock-In system features open cell ceiling panels with no frame or border around them and do not need a standard grid
system for installation. The panels simply connect to each other via supporting mounting and cross rails.
Because no grid system is required, the Lock-In system provides architects and designers with additional flexibility, especially
in custom size and color applications.
Panels for both systems are offered in a variety of interior cell sizes, including 3", 4", 6" and 8". Both systems are also
offered in standard white with custom colors available.
