The new $26.3 million Launceston Aquatic Centre, located in Tasmania, features an indoor, eight-lane 50m heated pool, toddler
pool, hydrotherapy pool, spa, cafe, crèche, and wellness centre.
Armstrong has supplied 2500m2 of the RH100 “Ceramaguard” acoustical ceiling system for this project. Ceramaguard is unique
in that it can be applied in high moisture areas including “standing water” applications; ideal for the Launceston Aquatic
Centre. The Cermamaguard panels are fully guaranteed to remain dimensionally stable (not sag) even at conditions up to 100%
relative humidity.
A project such as a swimming pool not only requires a ceiling system to exhibit moisture resistance but also chemical / corrosion
resistance. To meet this requirement, Armstrong also supplied an aluminum T-bar grid with stainless steel suspension wire.
An additional feature of the ceiling system at Launceston Aquatic Centre was the aluminum “up stand” perimeter trim – this
trim was a neat way of finishing off all edges of the floating ceiling installed above the main pool.
Indoor swimming pools can be very loud and uncomfortable. This issue was resolved by using Ceramaguard, a high acoustic ceiling
panel that significantly reduces background sound and reverberation. Additionally, the white Ceramaguard ceiling and aluminium
grid system provided an attractive finish - concealing the roof structure and insulation.
