Canadian Hospital uses Armstrong® MEDLEY™,MEDINTONE™, MEDINTECH® and TIMBERLINE® to help patients, visitors and staff find their way.
The last thing you need to worry about when you go to a hospital is trying to find where you need to go for specific services
or to find your relative or friend. Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre in Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada,
has teamed up with MCM Interiors (part of the MCMP/STH Architectural team) to develop a simple solution to find your way through
the 300-bed facility.
Looking at attributes such as performance and cost, designer Edith Wormsbecker, President, MCM Interiors, used 12 different
colors of Armstrong® MEDINTONE™, MEDLEY™, MEDINTECH® and TIMBERLINE® in the project. The flooring designs are used as way-finding
throughout the hospital, and are matched with the intricately inlaid flooring visuals that depict the natural environment
of the hospital’s community, such as mountains, agriculture and the local river.
“The colorful designs were developed for a specific function – to help patients and visitors find their way, to identify major
traffic changes and highlight key areas,” said Wormsbecker, “We developed a color palette and design to give each wing its
own identity, which was also incorporated into the flooring patterns. It’s easy to follow the color and the graphics on the
floor that lead to a particular wing. The striking colors in the Armstrong flooring product line allowed us to create a pleasant,
warm and healing environment that also helps patients, visitors and staff find their way around.”
