| Built in the 1970’s, Columbus Signature Academy at Fodrea had selected primarily carpet for its floors over the years. But
changes in the district’s preferences had decision makers looking at hard surface flooring options for upcoming renovations. At Columbus Signature Academy at Fodrea, a dramatic, spiral, concrete kiva was the inspiration behind the circular floor pattern. “Bright colors radiate from a central location to create a way-finding tool to various wings in the school,” said project designer Dawn Ter Horst with CSO Architects in Indianapolis who specified Armstrong® MEDINTONE™ and MEDLEY™ sheet products for the elementary school. “We worked closely with the school’s principal and facilities staff to select flooring that would create a fun atmosphere to enliven students,” said Ter Horst who selected, among other colors, a bright orange flooring to coordinate with school colors. In addition to design, Ter Horst was also trying to meet her client’s requirements for a long lasting floor. “Decision makers wanted a floor that was durable and low maintenance,” said Ter Horst, who urged her clients to consider Armstrong sheet products after they expressed interest in an alternative to VCT. “After seeing several examples of Armstrong sheet products installed in other facilities and how well it wore over the years even under high foot traffic, we felt it was the best choice for Columbus Signature Academy at Fodrea,” said Ter Horst.
