Detroit’s Communication and Media Arts (CMA) High School aims to be a school where students develop a love for learning—one to last them a lifetime. But that goal was threatened three times when the school found itself on verge of being closed due to its aging facility.

“We’re a nationally recognized, high-achieving institution,” said CMA High School Principal Donya Odum. “The closing of CMA would mean fewer options for parents and students in this area. Our students would have to seek educational options outside of Detroit according to a parent survey.”

Luckily it didn’t come to that thanks to a makeover by a new NBC reality television show called “School Pride.” CMA High School was one of just seven schools in the country chosen to receive a makeover. Armstrong® Commercial Flooring was the exclusive hard-surface flooring provider for the show. Armstrong Medintone™, Medley™ and Medintech ™ sheet flooring as well as MIGRATIONS® BioBased Tile® (BBT) were selected for CMA’s high-tech facility.

Armstrong sheet flooring is offered in a broad range of designs and colors including the recently expanded homogeneous collection. Medinton e features CONTINUUM™, a simple organized tonal step system that unites hue, value and chroma. This expanded and flexible range of color options offers fast and easy selection. Plus, Medintone, Medley and Medintech provide superior durability with a UV-cured coating for a low-maintenance finish. All Armstrong sheet products are low VOC emissions and stand up to the toughest environmental standards in the country.

MIGRATIONS® BBT® bio-flooring is a revolutionary flooring that uses a patent-pending polymer, BioStride®, made with rapidly renewable resources. The biobased portion of BioStride offers a sustainable alternative to petroleum-based products while providing equal or better performance. MIGRATIONS® BioBased Tile® bio-flooring addresses the most-used category of resilient flooring—composition tile—so it exerts maximum impact on the market and minimal impact on the environment by providing a greener product at an affordable price point.

“Our floors look great and our students are ecstatic,” said Odum.

Armstrong is the industry’s commercial flooring leader offering a broad selection of flooring products with variety of colors, patterns and sustainable attributes suitable for any educational facility. Let Armstrong make your job a little easier by being your one-stop-shop for all your flooring needs.
