Students design Armstrong booth at BAU 2011
DLW Flooring beneath giant fan
Armstrong received its visitors at a spectacular booth during the BAU 2011 trade fair. The flooring specialist presented its
product line in front of and under an oversized fan – completely in white. The design came from architecture students at the
university in Giessen under the direction of Professor Jürgen J. Hauck and is the crowning achievement of a joint project
with Armstrong. Armstrong used the 155 square meters of booth space to feature its Lino Art collection with real metal chips as well as its new Lino Form furniture linoleum. ‘Green’ was the main topic at the white booth at BAU
as Armstrong kicked off its large Europe-wide green dialogue initiative. The goal is to engage customers, architects and planners in dialogue around the topic of sustainability.
Armstrong also maintains close contact with its architect consultants at the universities. They teamed up with the university
in Giessen to create a brand new way of collaborating. 25 students from the Design and Construction department submitted their
designs to Professor Hauck as part of a student competition. In the run-up there was an intensive research effort around the
subject of exhibition stand construction and a workshop at Armstrong. The preliminary designs were discussed with Armstrong
employees and were reworked by the students, and then models were built. In the end, Armstrong selected two winning designs
by Tatjana Kapezov and Romen Grube as well as a third place design by Piotr Hajnas. The winners were also honoured with awards
at BAU in Munich. Armstrong had a booth builder create the design by Tatjana Kapezov. The giant fan is reminiscent of the
flooring specialist’s colour wheel with its comprehensive colour palettes. Designed with sustainability in mind, it can be
reused and will also be seen at the EuroShop trade fair in a somewhat smaller format.
