Natural resins
Apart from linseed oil, resins are another important component of the binder. A mixture of balsam and copal resin or, as a
substitute, dammar resin is often used in the Linoleum production.
Balsam resin is obtained in a similar way to rubber, by tapping from plantation trees. Resin and turpentine are obtained during
the distillation of the sap. Copal, on the other hand, is a fossilized resin like amber which is found in the ground in wooded
environments. The main areas of origin are Africa, South America and Asia.
