ENERGY & GREENHOUSE GAS STRATEGY High concentrations of greenhouse gases enter the atmosphere as a result of burning fossil fuels and other industrial processes
which increase the potential for climate change. Our goal is to reduce our energy use and greenhouse gas footprint.

ARMSTRONG’S ENERGY AND GREENHOUSE GAS POLICY REQUIRES:
|
- Global energy management programs;
- An energy review for new products and capital investments;
- Measurement of energy and greenhouse gases (GHG) according to the Global Reporting Initiative;
- Established goals for our carbon footprint;
- Transparency and external reporting of GHG inventory and progress on reduction.

Goal:
We have reached our target greenhouse gas reductions largely due to declines in production tied to the economic environment.
We will continue to make operational improvements so when production volumes return, we are on target to reach our original
stated goal to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions 10% by 2015.
Accomplishments:
In 2010, Armstrong officially joined The Climate Registry this year after completing a rigorous analysis of our global greenhouse gas emissions. We’re the first and only company to
date that has submitted records for three consecutive years, 2006-2009. Our commitment to sustainability and the results of
our reports earned us Climate Registry certification. Being a registered member with The Climate Registry means we third-party
verify and report our global greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories publicly and to the Registry each year; our records are fully
transparent. This summer, the Climate Registry honored companies like Armstrong for achieving Climate Registered status and
committing to reduce their greenhouse gas footprints by up to 20% as part of the Climate Registered reduction program. “When
it comes to environmental programs, Climate Registered leads the pack because it requires corporations to measure their entire
North American carbon footprint, verify the findings with an independent third party, and publicly report the results,” said
Doug Scott, chairman of The Climate Registry and commissioner of the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency. “It is comprehensive
and transparent and there is no other program out there as rigorous as the Climate Registered program.”
For every ton of ceiling material we recycle through our Ceiling Recycling Program - we’ve recycled 40,000 tons - we save:
- 456kg CO2 equivalents of greenhouse gases, the global impact of not driving a car 3,675 miles;
- 11 tons of virgin raw materials which, in turn, saves 1,892 gallons of potable water; and
- 1,390 kWh electricity, the monthly energy to power a home for 1.4 months
