WATER STRATEGY Water is crucial to Armstrong’s operations. To manage our use of water in a responsible and sustainable manner, we are systematically
reducing our consumption of this valuable natural resource.
ARMSTRONG’S WATER POLICY REQUIRES:
- Measurement systems at all facilities for usage, disposal and evaporation;
- Quality management procedures to monitor the effects of recycling water;
- Goals to optimize water quality and reduce fresh water usage;
- Reporting progress against our goals to external stakeholders.
Goal:
Our goal is to reduce fresh water use 10% by 2015 using 2006 as a baseline.
Accomplishments:
For every ton of ceiling material we recycle through our Ceiling Recycling Program - and we’ve recycled 40,000 tons - we save:
- 456kg CO2 equivalents of greenhouse gases, the global impact of not driving a car 3,675 miles;
- 11 tons of virgin raw materials which, in turn, saves 1,892 gallons of potable water; and
- 1,390 kWh electricity, the monthly energy to power a home for 1.4 months
