Alterna Luxury Vinyl – A Love Story
It’s always nice to “know” someone…
When you’re in the market for a new car, it’s helpful to have a close friend or family member in the auto business. They can give you the “inside” information you’re looking for and you know you can trust their recommendations. Same goes for just about any large scale purchase that you’re planning to make that will change your home or lifestyle. For the people close to me, I am their “friend in flooring”.
A few months ago, my brother-in-law (David) and sister-in-law (Vicki) were in the process of building a new home and came to me when it was time to choose a floor for their kitchen. Since they have two small children and another one on the way and a very large Doberman, they were looking for a floor that would accommodate their active lifestyle, but still look high end. David would not stop talking about ceramic tile and how “there is nothing like the look of natural stone in a home.” But Vicki was fearful, like any expectant mother, and kept talking about her new baby crawling around and “cracking his/her head open” on the ceramic tile.
In the midst of their hypothetical scenarios involving the baby, the kitchen floor and a trip to the emergency room, I suggested Armstrong’s Alterna luxury vinyl tile. Not only is this product close to my heart because I handle the product line at work, but I had just had it installed in my own kitchen – and had fallen in love with it the second it was installed. As a new mother, I could relate to Vicki’s concerns, but I could also understand how David wanted the best-looking floor in their new home. Over and over, I listened to him say that it just wouldn’t look the same and that the tiles would repeat and make the floor look artificial. When I began talking about the state-of-the-art manufacturing process that ensures there is virtually no pattern repeat among the tiles, he agreed to take a look at the floor in my kitchen.
Well, did David do a turnaround! He couldn’t believe that Alterna was not real ceramic. He insisted on examining every single tile on his hands and knees and could not find one that was exactly the same. Vicki liked the fact the Alterna felt soft to walk on – no more concerns about her baby! They were sold! Alterna had the ceramic tile look that David wanted and the more comfortable surface that Vicki wanted. They loved the floor so much that they purchased the same one I have! Imitation is the highest form of flattery, I guess!
It is nice to have a “friend” in flooring – at least my in-laws think so!
