Armstrong Flooring Spring Cleaning

It’s that time of the year again: time for Spring Cleaning! It’s kind of like going to the gym – you know you have to do it and you’ll feel better once it’s done, but you put it off as long as you can.

Since I work at Armstrong and have Armstrong floors throughout my house, floors are always a big focus of mine. Very soon, I’ll begin my semi-annual floor cleaning, where I go over all the flooring in our house on my hands and knees. Every time I do this, I think back to my grandmother, who used to scrub floors on the weekends to earn extra money to help send her kids to college. When I got hired at Armstrong, she was already familiar with the name and told me: “I scrubbed many Armstrong floors over the years.”

Spring Cleaning Game Plan

She also taught me that any cleaning project goes better if you have a game plan. She was so right. My game plan for floor cleaning starts with moving obstacles like furniture, rugs and other objects out of the way. Felt floor movers work great for that purpose!

The next item on my game plan is to decide what floor cleaning products to use. It’s important to use the right cleaning method and product for your floors because what works well for one hard-surface floor type may ruin another. If you have an Armstrong floor, always use Armstrong-recommended cleaning products. They’ve been tested in our labs, and we know they will be effective when used properly. You can find more cleaning and maintenance tips for Armstrong flooring under Flooring 101. Armstrong also has customer care representatives who can help you determine the right cleaner and can offer other types of floor care advice, like how to remove pesky stains.

Once I’ve removed all the obstacles, selected the appropriate cleaners, and vacuumed, it’s time to get work. If you’re extremely picky like me and clean on your hands and knees, I recommend wearing gloves and using a folded towel or gel pad for your knees. Trust me, your knees will thank you.

Once my floor spring cleaning is completed, I have to make a phone call to my young niece and nephew. They love to come over to my house and slide around on my shiny, clean floors in their tube socks and have a mini-dance party. Seeing them laugh and have fun reminds me of something else Grandma said, “A shiny clean floor is a happy floor.”

Happy Spring Cleaning!
