What Does “FloorScore® Certified” Mean?

Armstrong Green Floors

I never considered myself a “green” consumer, but I can’t help noticing all of the news stories, magazine articles and blogs that talk about the dangers of the chemicals found in common household products and how they affect our health – everything from cleaning products to paint, furniture, plastic bottles, even the clothes we wear and the food we eat.

As a mother to a 5-year-old, I have become more conscious of green products and try to give my daughter the healthiest environment possible for her to grow up in. For example, I always buy organic food and products that are certified to be healthy. I don’t want to risk her health by buying a product that could be toxic to our home.

FloorScore Certification for Flooring

Armstrong Floor Score Certified

In my career as a marketing specialist for home products, including vinyl flooring, I am proud to say that the vinyl products Armstrong produces – and that I market – are certified to be healthy for the home. All of Armstrong’s vinyl flooring products carry the “FloorScore Certification” seal. This means that they meet or exceed low emission levels of specific volatile organic compounds (VOCs) for better indoor air quality. This is a third-party certification created by the Resilient Floor Covering Institute. Their experts test flooring products to certify that they are in compliance with strict indoor air quality standards. Any product that meets these stringent standards is a product that will contribute to good indoor air quality. Essentially, the FloorScore® certification means healthier, cleaner air – and as a result, healthier humans.

Healthy Indoor Air Quality

When you choose an Armstrong vinyl sheet floor for your home, not only are you getting the best designs, best quality and longest-lasting vinyl sheet products available, you also get the peace of mind that comes with knowing that your floor contributes to healthy indoor air quality. If you’re like me, that’s the peace of mind I need in a world where no matter where you turn, some product on the market once deemed safe is now dangerous to your health. When you buy from Armstrong, you can have the confidence you are buying from a company that cares and that manufactures responsible vinyl flooring products that give you a healthier home.
