Beware the Summer Hazards to Your Floor
May 25, 2012 1:31 pm Posted by RDDemackiewicz Comments (0)Hooray! It’s time to officially kick off the summer season! While you’re enjoying warm, sunny days and entertaining friends and family for cook-outs and parties, watch out for these potential hazards to keep your floors looking great all summer long!
What to watch for:
- Pool water belongs poolside and not puddling on your Armstrong floor. Make sure pool users dry off thoroughly before coming into the house. Walk-off mats are also a good idea to keep floors dry and your family safe from any potential slips or falls.
- Whether you’re adding ice to your favorite drink or filling a cooler, ice doesn’t stay in solid form for long during the dog days of summer. Keep an eye out for stray ice cubes melting on your floor and wipe away any spills.
- Fido is going to be lapping up more water this summer. Make sure you keep the water bowl full and use a towel underneath to catch any splashes.
Forget the Carpet!
May 11, 2012 4:46 pm Posted by RDDemackiewicz Comments (0)A lot of homeowners – especially long-time homeowners – tend to think of carpet as a comfortable and familiar type of floor covering. It’s been around forever. It’s what they’ve always had and what they’re used to. I ran into this carpet fixation when we lived in North Carolina. My husband and I planned to rip up the carpet to install hardwoods in the living room. Some of our family members couldn’t understand why we didn’t want replace the old carpet with more carpet. These same relatives had the same reaction when we installed laminate flooring in our new house in PA. So, I decided to educate them on why I prefer hard surface flooring.
Spring Cleaning Tips – from Armstrong & Grandma
April 20, 2012 3:37 pm Posted by RDDemackiewicz Comments (0)It’s that time of the year again: time for Spring Cleaning! It’s kind of like going to the gym – you know you have to do it and you’ll feel better once it’s done, but you put it off as long as you can.
Since I work at Armstrong and have Armstrong floors throughout my house, floors are always a big focus of mine. Very soon, I’ll begin my semi-annual floor cleaning, where I go over all the flooring in our house on my hands and knees. Every time I do this, I think back to my grandmother, who used to scrub floors on the weekends to earn extra money to help send her kids to college. When I got hired at Armstrong, she was already familiar with the name and told me: “I scrubbed many Armstrong floors over the years.” more ►
The Value of Flooring Warranties
April 13, 2012 2:27 pm Posted by wendy Comment (1)Last month, I started shopping for a new floor for my home. Of course, being the Manager for the Armstrong Flooring Customer Relations & Technical Services Team, I have masses of information and samples to review at my fingertips to help me in making my flooring decision.
Like most consumers, I looked for color, style, and most importantly, the value I would get out of my floor. Now when I say value, I’m not talking about the amount of money I would spend on the floor, plus the cost of an installer; I’m talking about value in the form of a warranty. A flooring warranty is an important consideration when purchasing a floor.
Choosing a Pet-Friendly Floor
March 9, 2012 4:58 pm Posted by EMSnyder offWhen choosing a new floor for my kitchen, my dog, Shasta, had a big say in the floor I picked. Now, I don’t want you to think I held up flooring samples and chose the one that got the loudest bark. It was more subtle than that. I looked for floors that are particularly pet-friendly – that is, they’re durable and scratch-resistant.

February 10, 2012 4:44 pm Posted by francesca Comments (2)Millions of Americans gathered around their TVs last Sunday to watch the Super Bowl. Whether you were cheering on your favorite team, watching the commercials, or (my personal favorite), rooting for Madonna, homes across America were filled with friends, family and, of course, football food.
My home was no different. A popular treat of the evening was my mother-in-law’s old-fashioned hot dog cart that gave us game-worthy stadium dogs. We had hot dogs and all the condiments set up in the kitchen, and with 20 people constantly moving in and out of the kitchen, ages 3 to 93, you can probably guess what happened next. more ►
Cleaning Up After the Holidays
January 6, 2012 4:08 pm Posted by SRHorner offWelcome to the start of a new year! I hope you enjoyed the holidays as much as I did!
Now that the hustle and bustle of the holiday season is over, it’s time to pack up the decorations, take down the tree, and move your furniture back where it belongs. What a perfect time to spruce up your home! Let me help by giving you tips for cleaning your floors. If your home was anything like mine during the holidays, it was filled with lots of decorations, a Christmas tree, frequent family gatherings, holiday parties, gift exchanges, and too much food! To accommodate our large family parties, we held most of our holiday events in the largest area of our house, which has vinyl sheet flooring. I love the comfort underfoot that vinyl provides, but most of all, I love the easy clean-up!
Pet-Friendly Tips to Protect Your Floors During the Holidays
December 16, 2011 2:10 pm Posted by RDDemackiewicz Comments (4)I have a dog and a cat. Like me, they love Christmas – but not for the same reasons! They love Christmas because they get extra treats; there are lots of decorations to play with; and when friends and family come to visit, they usually get a lot of extra attention. This season, keep your pets happy and your floors looking beautiful with these helpful tips.
Using Steam Cleaners on Wood & Laminate Floors
November 22, 2011 1:38 pm Posted by joe Comments (2)It’s that time of year again. The newspaper’s filled with “Black Friday” sales and everyone is planning their shopping strategy – the holiday season is upon us. For many, this means gathering together with family and friends. If you’re hosting a get-together, making sure your home looks its best is likely one of your top priorities. For the hardwood or laminate owner, this often begs the question, “Is it okay for me to use a steam cleaner on my floor?” As a customer service technician, I get asked this question a lot. The short answer is no! Read on to find out why.

October 28, 2011 3:33 pm Posted by NECarl offAt Halloween (and all year round), you can protect your Armstrong floors with these helpful tips:
1. If you are stirring a cauldron in the kitchen, make sure you have an adequate cauldron-support system in place.
2. Do not allow the pet goat in your house; or any cloven-hooved animals for that matter. Not only are they disagreeable, but your floor may not hold up. 3. Do not put a kiddie pool in the middle of the kitchen because it is too cold to take the kids out to play. Bad, bad idea. 4. Do not install Armstrong hardwood in your garage or houseboat. 5. Don’t allow the hubs to use a chainsaw in the kitchen to make that Thanksgiving ice sculpture. Enough said. 6. One more time: fireworks belong outdoors, even when it is not the 4th of July. 7. Though we all love Uncle Frank and his fascination with the Old West, ask him to remove his spurs before coming inside. 8. No pogo-sticking in the house. Get more helpful tips on protecting your Armstrong hardwood or vinyl floor.
Happy Halloween!
