Tags: AlternaAlterna – The Baby-Friendly Flooring
February 24, 2012 11:48 am Posted by gina Comment (1)As a new mother, I am never at a loss to find something to worry about. Is the baby eating enough? Is the baby cold? Why is the baby crying? Why did the baby cough? The list goes on and on.
And now that our baby, Mia, is starting to crawl, I find even more things to worry about. Are the outlets covered? Are the cabinets childproof? Is the basement door closed? Are the dog and the baby in the same room? Like all parents, my constant concern is: am I creating a safe environment for my baby?
Alterna Luxury Vinyl – A Love Story
January 13, 2012 5:02 pm Posted by gina offIt’s always nice to “know” someone…
When you’re in the market for a new car, it’s helpful to have a close friend or family member in the auto business. They can give you the “inside” information you’re looking for and you know you can trust their recommendations. Same goes for just about any large scale purchase that you’re planning to make that will change your home or lifestyle. For the people close to me, I am their “friend in flooring”.
A few months ago, my brother-in-law (David) and sister-in-law (Vicki) were in the process of building a new home and came to me when it was time to choose a floor for their kitchen. Since they have two small children and another one on the way and a very large Doberman, they were looking for a floor that would accommodate their active lifestyle, but still look high end. David would not stop talking about ceramic tile and how “there is nothing like the look of natural stone in a home.” But Vicki was fearful, like any expectant mother, and kept talking about her new baby crawling around and “cracking his/her head open” on the ceramic tile.
DIYer Likes Luxe Plank Luxury Vinyl
November 11, 2011 3:37 pm Posted by rffisher Comments (2)So, what does a knowledgeable Armstrong employee do when her basement floods, ruining her flooring? She shops for new flooring! We originally had carpeting in the basement, but I knew I wasn’t interested in replacing my damaged flooring with more carpeting. I started to look at hard surface materials. Believe it or not, I looked at other manufacturers in addition to Armstrong, but I kept returning to Armstrong’s Luxe Plank luxury vinyl floor. I had always admired the beauty of the flooring, but didn’t know if it would stand up to my expectations – which may be more demanding than the average consumer. I knew the installation method, maintenance routine and warranty like the back of my hand, but I wanted to touch it and test it for myself.
Finding the Right Bathroom Flooring
October 14, 2011 4:03 pm Posted by SMWeir Comments (2)The bathroom is one of the busiest rooms in a home. According to one survey, working women spend about 90 minutes a day in a bathroom getting ready for work. (By contrast, in the same survey, men spend about 11 minutes.) If you’ve got teenagers, they’re spending 30-40 minutes in the bathroom before school. And if your children are younger, then you know at the end of the day, bath time can go on and on – and on. Here’s the question: is your bathroom floor up to the challenge?
Finding the right bathroom flooring is a matter of knowing: the look you want, the floor type you want and the performance you expect from a floor. more ►
Alterna Installation Easier Than Ceramic Tile
September 30, 2011 4:16 pm Posted by RDDemackiewicz off
We installed Alterna luxury vinyl tile in our kitchen and mudroom, and I just want to say: you really have to see and feel Alterna to know what a great product it is! And I’m happy to say that my husband agrees with me – now, but it didn’t start out that way. In the beginning, he wasn’t too sure. Let me take you back….Our big day for the Alterna installation was a Saturday in late August. Of course, we didn’t start prepping for the installation until the night before. To make sure we both understood how this was going to work, I read the instructions out loud to my husband. When I got to the line, “Do not install Alterna over OSB or plywood,” my husband said, “What did you just say? We have OSB.” I read it again. Then he took the paper and read it because, well, he’s male and therefore would not believe it until he saw it for himself in black and white.
To Grout or Not to Grout
August 26, 2011 3:27 pm Posted by RDDemackiewicz Comments (6)Anyone who has installed flooring in their home has had to make choices about which floor fits their space and decorating style. My husband and I recently went through this when we were shopping for new flooring for our first floor. We chose laminate flooring over carpet for the main living areas, but we were still undecided about the mudroom and bathrooms.
The mudroom is where we have our washer and dryer, and it also serves as the “pet containment” area. To say the least, it is a high traffic area. In addition, the flooring in this area would be subjected to various degrees of moisture. We needed a floor that was economically practical and would hold up to a couple of newlyweds, a dog, a cat and, someday, children.Fresh New Stone Looks for Alterna
August 12, 2011 4:55 pm Posted by jeanette Comments (4)We’re excited to announce we’ve just introduced a new collection to our Alterna luxury vinyl tile products!
Our original Alterna collection was designed to capture the timeless look of natural stone and ceramic tile, while providing a warm, soft feel underfoot. These floors also offer strong textures that vary subtly from tile to tile.

With our brand new line called Alterna Reserve, we’ve maintained all the features of Alterna, but added more dramatic, high-end stone visuals. We’ve also added even more texture variations from tile to tile. If you’re looking for a unique floor that makes a high impact, then you’ll want to explore the Alterna Reserve collection. This collection includes three patterns.
• Moselle Valley is a slate with a gorgeous blend of organic colors and clefts. It’s offered in four colors. My favorite is Forest Green/Copper. It’s a deep rich color with a blend of green, rust, brown and beige. It could match many color schemes in today’s homes.
• The Spanish name for quartz is Cuarzo. Inspired by beautiful quartz stone, Cuarzo adds a glimmer of crystallized veining. This pattern is also offered in four colors.
• Classico Travertine inspired the original idea for this new collection. The design team wanted to offer more variation in a travertine stone, so a new innovative process evolved for all three new designs. Classico Travertine replicates the color and texture variation of stone quarried directly from the earth. more ►
