Personalization has become an important interior design trend in recent years. Now Armstrong introduces a whole new dimension of personalization – for your floor! With new shapes and sizes in our Alterna collection.
Alterna luxury vinyl tile is a beautiful alternative to natural stone and ceramic tile, and just like those products, Alterna is available in various sizes. In addition to 16” x 16” and 12” x 12” sizes, you can now get 12” x 24”, 8” x 16” and 8” x 8” in thirty Alterna designs.

If you’re an avid DIYer and haven’t pondered the thought of installing Luxe Plank luxury vinyl in your home, maybe this post will help change your mind. Luxe Plank has the appearance of today’s most popular wood visuals, superior water resistance and when you add the ease of installation and the durability of this product, I bet you’ll seriously want to give this product a second look.
I am a new homeowner and have a very active lifestyle, so I don’t have time to spend hours cleaning my floors. Plus, I have an 8-month-old Labrador retriever named “Remy”, already weighing in at 75 lbs. Luxe made it an easy decision when looking for a product to stand up to a slobber monster who has not yet learned his table manners.
When my husband and I first bought our home, we knew that at some point the kitchen was going to need a complete makeover. After a few years, with a lot of planning, saving, and dreaming, we finally made it happen.
My fiancé and I make a good team when it comes to home improvements: he is construction-savvy and I’m always ready for a new challenge! However, with any home project, we always step back and ask ourselves this question, “Is this a DIY project or do we need to hire a professional?”
Case in point: we need a new kitchen floor. Since I work at Armstrong, we’re looking at Armstrong products – specifically Alterna groutable premium tile. It’s one of our most popular flooring products and has received a lot of positive reviews on our website.
I professed my love for stone tile many years ago, deciding my home and life would not be complete without the raw, pure beauty of 1000-year-old stone under my feet every day. All of this was true until I laid eyes on Alterna premium tile. I couldn’t believe it wasn’t real stone. I examined every inch of the Alterna tile sample, still doubting what was in front of me. But the texture, depth, color variation, warmth and comfort sold me. It was just like my beloved stone tile, offering natural beautiful characteristics, but at a lower cost, with easier installation and lower maintenance than natural stone tile. Oh, and did I mention the coordinating grout colors? This is one innovative floor!
This month, Armstrong Flooring’s Design Team won 4 ADEX (Awards for Design Excellence) awards: 2 for hardwood products and 2 for premium tile products. The ADEX Awards, sponsored by Design Journal, is the largest and most prestigious awards program for product design of furniture, fixtures and finishes marketed to design professionals.
The Flooring Board asked the Armstrong designers who created these award winners to talk about their flooring designs and what the awards mean to them.
When you’re trying to find the right flooring for your home, it’s fun to browse all the room scenes on websites and social media sites like Pinterest. Of course, professionally photographed room scenes probably aren’t going to match your space, but it’s fun to look and dream.
As a new mother, I am never at a loss to find something to worry about. Is the baby eating enough? Is the baby cold? Why is the baby crying? Why did the baby cough? The list goes on and on.
And now that our baby, Mia, is starting to crawl, I find even more things to worry about. Are the outlets covered? Are the cabinets childproof? Is the basement door closed? Are the dog and the baby in the same room? Like all parents, my constant concern is: am I creating a safe environment for my baby?
It’s always nice to “know” someone…
When you’re in the market for a new car, it’s helpful to have a close friend or family member in the auto business. They can give you the “inside” information you’re looking for and you know you can trust their recommendations. Same goes for just about any large scale purchase that you’re planning to make that will change your home or lifestyle. For the people close to me, I am their “friend in flooring”.
A few months ago, my brother-in-law (David) and sister-in-law (Vicki) were in the process of building a new home and came to me when it was time to choose a floor for their kitchen. Since they have two small children and another one on the way and a very large Doberman, they were looking for a floor that would accommodate their active lifestyle, but still look high end. David would not stop talking about ceramic tile and how “there is nothing like the look of natural stone in a home.” But Vicki was fearful, like any expectant mother, and kept talking about her new baby crawling around and “cracking his/her head open” on the ceramic tile.
So, what does a knowledgeable Armstrong employee do when her basement floods, ruining her flooring? She shops for new flooring! We originally had carpeting in the basement, but I knew I wasn’t interested in replacing my damaged flooring with more carpeting. I started to look at hard surface materials. Believe it or not, I looked at other manufacturers in addition to Armstrong, but I kept returning to Armstrong’s Luxe Plank luxury vinyl floor. I had always admired the beauty of the flooring, but didn’t know if it would stand up to my expectations – which may be more demanding than the average consumer. I knew the installation method, maintenance routine and warranty like the back of my hand, but I wanted to touch it and test it for myself.
