Product Classification
Board-to-Board Color Variation
Board-to-Board Color Variation

Wood is a natural material that features changes in color and tone. The board-to-board color variation is more pronounced in some species, less in others. If you like the look of contrasting light and dark tones, select a species that offers most color variation. If you prefer consistent color from board to board, choose the least color variation.

Hardness Scale
Hardness Scale

The density/hardness of the wood species and its ability to withstand foot traffic, children and pets will impact its wear performance, and will vary from species to species. Strong, resilient Oak is used as the industry benchmark. The hardness scale shown to the left shows the relative hardness of this wood species.

Customer Reviews

Rated 2.5 out of 5 by 2 reviewers.
Rated 2 out of 5 by Color nice but flooring is too soft. Love the color but If you drop anything (well except a paper towel) on this floor it will leave a dent in the wood. Not my idea of "hardwood". Some of the boards cracked and split after installation and it scratches easily. Very disappointed. February 3, 2015
Rated 3 out of 5 by Looks fabulous! But not for long... There's no question that the Maple - Sumatra looks fantastic - even after 6 yrs post-installation, we still get compliments on the look. There's a good variety of lengths in each box with less than 5% scrap (knots or other defects that make that piece unusable). However, its not the perfect floor material. We installed the 3-1/4" wide plank and in an average-sized room we had about 5 boards that weren't quite the full 3-1/4" width. That means you'll have a gap that shows bare wood against a dark stained finish. So keep a black Sharpie pen handy to color-in the exposed wood edge. But the worst part about this material is it is a soft grained wood. You drop something on it and it WILL leave a mark. Shortly after ours' was installed we hosted a dinner party and we had women's high-heel shoe marks all over the floor. Kitchen bar stools - better keep those rubber feet on them because they'll leave marks, too. Drop a spoon or a fork and you'll see where it hit the floor. And finally, the urethane finish does not have a UV protectant in it...the flooring in our rooms with southern-exposure windows have faded where the sun sweeps across the floor - very noticeable against the unexposed areas of the floor in those rooms, especially when you peel back any rugs. Bottom line: use this flooring in lightly-used rooms that don't have direct sunlilght exposure and you'll be absolutely delighted with it. But you'll be disappointed with it if you use it in high traffic areas or where it receives direct sunlight. December 7, 2012
