ARMSTRONG PRODUCTS ON MARTHA STEWART TV SHOW: IT’S A GOOD THING

Two Armstrong products -- Waverly™ maple cabinets in Pearl finish and Nature’s Gallery™ Pacific Heights™ laminate flooring -- were featured in a segment of the nationally syndicated Martha Stewart Show in which a contest-winning family from Indiana sees their kitchen transformed into a “Dream Kitchen,” courtesy of Martha and her sponsors.  General Manager—Product Management Ceramic & Laminate Milton Goodwin also appeared on-air to talk about the beauty and value of Armstrong laminate flooring.

“To be featured so prominently in this popular national television show, and to have Martha Stewart comment positively on the qualities of our products is a tremendous opportunity to showcase our brand,” said General Manager—Marketing Communications Carlene Moloney.

Julie Ratliff, a high school teacher from Seymour, Indiana, won the Second Annual Martha's General Electric (GE) Dream Kitchen. Viewers were asked to submit creative video entries, explaining why their kitchens were in need of a makeover.  Ratliff won the hearts of show producers with a special rap tune that featured her entire family (including her son and his girlfriend, both of whom have culinary backgrounds).  Seymour, Indiana is the hometown of John Cougar Mellencamp.

The house was built in 1858 and currently houses three generations of the Ratcliff family in the home (8-10 for dinner each night).  Julie Ratliff is a known economics teacher at the local high school.  They had a "good-bye" kitchen party to tear out the old and 100 people came to the party to say adios.

“It's a touching story and an honor for us to be associated with the giveaway,” says Armstrong Cabinets Marketing Manager Tosha Todd.

Martha provided the inspiration and the floor plan, and working with designers at GE and Armstrong, came up with a beautiful design that is extremely functional while providing a gathering place for the family.

“Choosing flooring is an important decision. Consumers want to consider wear and tear, the aesthetic, and care of the floor,” says Calia Van Dyk, Studio Manager for The Martha Stewart Show. “Armstrong’s complete guide to flooring on their website at www.armstrong.com provided thorough and fast information.  I recommend that people take a look at it when planning a new kitchen.”

“The flooring looks amazing! The color and the texture are beautiful, and the installation went very smoothly. Armstrong has such a broad selection of flooring that even if everyone is bound to find something to work in their own home,” says Van Dyk.

Pacific Heights™ Laminate Strip in 3.5” widths makes it virtually impossible to see a repeat in the pattern to capture a look more like traditional hardwood flooring.  It features color-coordinated micro-beveled edges in exotics, traditional oak and dramatic domestic hardwood species visuals.

In the segment Martha mentions both flooring and cabinets, as well as the style and finish color and thanks Armstrong personally.

“Martha selected our beautiful Waverly maple cabinets in a Pearl finish, which truly complements the yellow paint she chose from her Martha Stewart paint collection,” says Todd. “The kitchen is a miraculous transformation from cabinets falling off the wall to becoming visually a more open kitchen which uses every ounce of space.”

Armstrong Waverly™ cabinets offer natural hardwood cabinets in the understated wood grain patterns and textures of maple. Full overlay, square raised panel doors with sculpted front edges complement any decorating theme.  The satin smooth, clear grain beauty of select maple gives a very sophisticated styling impression. Waverly cabinet’s hand-rubbed glaze accents the raised-panel design and presents multiple color choices and contrasts.

As the lucky winner, Julie's much-to-be-desired kitchen benefited from a gut renovation and makeover worth up to $100,000.  The fully renovated kitchen was the focus of a May segment on THE MARTHA STEWART SHOW and will also be featured in a future issue of Martha Stewart Living.

Commenting on her win, Ratliff said: “Well I just cherish every time that my family can come together and make wonderful memories and having this kitchen is just going to add a lot to this whole family.”
