Homes Span The Generations at 2007 International Builders Show
Three uniquely different homes that span across the generations, with products installed and in action, feature a full range of Armstrong Cabinet Products. The 2007 Professional Builder Show Village built by Palm Harbor Homes and Nationwide Custom Homes at the International Builders Show in Orlando, Florida showcases a triplex of town houses for the first time home buyer; a family home for the “Gen-X” homeowner; and the ultimate luxury home for the sizeable Baby Boom generation. A bevy of more than 130 cabinet styles and finishes – including a custom bamboo-inspired style with furniture-quality accents designed especially for the Gen-X luxury home – are open-to-view to all IBS trade show attendees. Built to the highest level of construction and design excellence, Professional Builder Show Village, located outside in the convention center at IBS, has become the place for builders to see the best from building product manufacturers in an installed environment, in real homes. It’s estimated that over 45 visitors per minute will enter the homes during peak hours. “The cabinets are such an integral part of the home, adding both character and visual excitement,” says Margie Wright, vice president, Interior Design, Palm Harbor Homes. Citing a perfect blend of form and function, Wright likes the custom features in a semi-custom cabinetry line. “The cabinets set the tone in any home, especially in the kitchen. Armstrong brings a top-tier product to any home, regardless of style or budget.”
The Homes
The Lifestyle: The children of the Baby Boomers number nearly 80 million and the oldest are moving into the housing market. They have never known a world without personal computers, and they expect to be able to access the communication network — web and phone — any time, anywhere. Their homes reflect that. At one-third of the U.S. population, just their sheer numbers will dominate the housing industry the way their parents’ generation did. Their homes look different too. Just look at the cars they drive — boxy, almost modular. They have been watched over and protected. Their lives have been scheduled and detailed. They want homes that are safe and secure, with incredible access to the entire world. Those seemingly contradictory needs are resolved through a huge reliance on communication technology. Will the Echo Boomer house be the first “Unwired” house? The Looks: An intriguing townhouse triplex features innovative designs of varying tastes for young, firsttime time home buyers, selling for approximately $115,000-$150,000.
The Lifestyle: Welcome to kid central. The Gen-X family house is the front line of the battleground between overworked, two-career families who have to get their tightly scheduled children to all their activities and still maintain a family life. Often with Gen-X, one of the parents is an entrepreneur, working out of the home office. They keep irregular hours and have to balance the awkwardness of deadlines and dinnertime. The children of the Gen-Xers are called the “perfect generation” — expected to excel in every area. The homes reflect those expectations with computer areas, music rooms, craft areas, and sports arenas. These children have to be completely well rounded, while executing at peak performance in every area. The busy parents need the most efficient, labor-saving devices yet need to feed their children the highly nutritious, lovingly prepared full meals perfect kids require. The Look: Pure “coastal.” Feel like you’re living on the ocean, whether you live on the Midwest, Southeast or Northwest. Offering not one but two Master Suites – perfect for two busy professionals sharing space or for visitors – the home provides state-of-the-art living with luxurious touches including a media room, gourmet kitchen, and an elevator. Estimated home price is $500,000, exclusive of land. The first floor, including the kitchen – the Center of the Universe Design – creatively combines natural and toffee colors in Maple. Armstrong’s top of the line SERENITY and SERENITY™ GLAZE cabinetry starts with maple, nature’s durable hardwood, with a uniform texture and close graining. A soft pillow shaped edge in a full overlay door adds warmth and a level of sophistication rarely achieved. The difference is in the details. Armstrong Cabinets demonstrate its flexibility and ability to mix different classic elements. Armstrong designers used custom bamboo-style accessories exclusively for the Gen-X home to help carry-through its tropical ambiance. The cabinets, adorned with these accessories, are designed as furniture, with a “reed” look – suggestive of Bahaman bamboo – visible in the frieze molding and table legs. Also brand new for 2007, is Armstrong’s beautiful SERENITY door style in a pearl finish with new pewter glaze, which will be showcased in the home’s Master Suite. Striking against stainless steel or natural stone elements, its versatility allows it to appear both functional and enduring in any environment. The second floor’s Master Suite, as well as the Home Theater, features WAVERLY GLAZE in Toffee and Café, respectively. The satin smooth, clear grain beauty of select maple gives a very sophisticated styling impression. Waverly cabinet’s hand-rubbed glaze accents the raised-panel design and presents multiple color choices and contrasts. RUTLEDGE in Natural Maple appears again in the laundry room.
The Lifestyle: Luxury. The most over-indulged generation can now afford to over-indulge themselves. They have vacation homes and specialty rooms for their life-affirming hobbies. They need space for the kids and grandkids to come visit. They rely on a battery of home services so they can devote themselves to their individual improvement. They are also the sandwich generation, many of them still raising children but caring for aging parents. As is true of their whole lives, they have the means and the money but don’t have the time. The Look: This is the “Ultimate House” — over 5,000 square feet, at an estimated price of more than $1 million with land. A touch of craftsman in the exterior, and a lot of luxury in the interior, this home is truly a grand estate. It incorporates the luxury of SEDONA GLAZE, Armstrong’s most decorative and unique maple cabinet. Sedona makes a statement in any room. It features a stunningly beautiful rope inlay design and detailed profile on full overlay doors and drawer fronts, personalizing any home. Sedona cabinetry is featured in both Café on the wall and in pearl on the kitchen island. The home office features a wall of WAVERLY GLAZE in Mocha. And, in the hip laundry room, are the brand new Maple Shaker beaded cabinets in pearl, set against a concrete tile floor. The Master retreat is amazing….a large coffee bar featuring again Waverly in Mocha, flanked by Sedona pearl glaze in the master bath. And, in the pool room LACERISE GLAZE, featuring a raised center panel milled from edge glued solid cherry hardwood, surrounded by a solid cherry frame. Precision milling produces a center panel with crisp, concise edges that step-down to a convex curve and reflects natural light back onto the door frame. This added depth accentuates the overall appearance and is truly reflective of fine furniture. Cherry’s old world charm and handcrafted construction are accented with hand-rubbed glazes. LaCerise cabinetry highlights the beauty of this full overlay square or eyebrow arched raised panel design. Subtle shades of dark and light contrasts add interest to any room.
