Select the Right Global Exotics Floor

Solid Hardwood

Solid hardwood floors from Armstrong feature 3/4" 100% solid wood milled from lumber. Solid hardwood can be sanded and refinished to extend the life of the floor.

Low-Profile Hardwood

Armstrong pioneered the development of proprietary 5/16" thick solid wood construction that offers a smooth transition to other rooms with different floor coverings.

Engineered Hardwood

Engineered floors from Armstrong feature 100% hardwood manufactured by permanently bonding together multiple layers of wood in a cross-ply construction for superior strength and dimensional stability.

Hardness Scale
The density/hardness of the wood species and its ability to withstand foot traffic, children and pets will impact its wear performance, and will vary from species to species. Strong, resilient Oak is used as the industry benchmark. Refer to the hardness scale on each product page or in the online brochure to determine its hardness in comparison to Oak.

Board-to-Board Color Variation
Wood is a natural material that features changes in color and tone. The board-to-board color variation is more pronounced in some species, less in others. If you like the look of contrasting light and dark tones, select a species that offers "most" color variation. If you prefer consistent color from board to board, choose the "least" color variation.

Color Variation Over Time
Wood is a natural material that reacts to light exposure. Exotic hardwoods gain richness in color and may become darker or lighter over time. The most dramatic change will occur within the first six months following installation.
