Bold, beautiful coffered ceilings transform a plain ceiling into a work of art. Architecturally rich, these three-dimensional panels form an elegant framework of sculptured recesses, or “coffers,” capturing the interplay of light and shadow overhead. The effect creates a visual depth that not only makes a dramatic décor element but also makes your ceiling appear taller.
Coffered ceiling options
Easy Elegance™ ceilings give you the classic coffered look at a fraction of the cost of custom millwork. Made of durable, rigid PVC, 2’ x 2’ lay-in panels fit into a standard 15/16" drop ceiling system. Easy Elegance embossed coffers come in two lightweight styles – a deep set coffer and a shallower panel – so you can choose the sculptural effect you want on your ceiling. Lighting can be incorporated into the shallower panel for use in combination with the deep set coffers.
Select coffered ceiling panels in a black or white finish. Mold, mildew and sag resistant panels are ideal for below grade environments, such as a basement family room, home theater or media center. These ceiling panels will give you the visual variety and flexibility to mix and match panel colors, designs, or even reverse panels to express your own personal style.
Not only do they have a high design aesthetic, but coffered ceilings are easy to install, even for novice DIYers. In just one weekend, you can create the dramatic look of a coffered ceiling using an existing drop ceiling grid or a new grid installation. Armstrong also makes it easy to estimate the amount of materials you’ll need.
Decorating with coffered ceiling panels
In home theatres, wine cellars or man caves, black coffered panels enhance the sculptural effect and enhance the room’s atmosphere.
Use latex paint to coordinate coffered panels to your existing décor.
Make a powerful statement by painting coffered panels in a bright color, like red . . . or alternate black coffers with red or white for a checkerboard effect. Perfect for game rooms.
A. Coffers are sunken ceiling tiles in a square or rectangular shape. For coffered ceilings, these tiles are surrounded on all sides by deep or shallow beams. A series of coffered ceiling tiles creates a decorative grid pattern on a ceiling.
Q. How are coffered ceilings installed?
A. Coffered ceilings are installed using a suspended metal grid system. Once the metal grid is in place, the coffered tiles are dropped inside.
