Founding Member of the US Green Building Council (USGBC)
The U.S. Green Building Council is the nation’s leading coalition of corporations, builders,
universities, federal and local agencies, and nonprofit organizations working together to
promote buildings that are environmentally responsible, profitable and healthy places to live
and work. USGBC brings together leaders from every sector of the building industry to
advance market transformation. One of the primary programs is the LEED Rating System.
The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System™
is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high
performance green buildings. LEED gives building owners and operators the tools they need
to have an immediate and measurable impact on their buildings’ performance. LEED promotes a whole-building
approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health:
sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection, and indoor environmental quality.
As a founding member of the USGBC, Armstrong participated in the development of the LEED rating system. Our
company incorporated the LEED criteria in the design and construction of our corporate headquarters building located
at our Innovation Center campus in Lancaster, PA
